My 5 age brain thought, why can’t architects just build houses for those in need? Then, it wasn’t until thesis I researched on housing injustice, it is very political! During this period, I threw myself into the field, and volunteered to see the living conditions myself. It broke my heart seeing elderly living in such terrible states from the war on housing crisis. This project is an ode, a rough plan I hope to fease during my lifetime to help those in need.

During my site visit, one of the empty rooms had this poetry by Hortense Vlou written on the walls..

Desert

In that desert, he walked backward at times, feeling so lonely.
To see the footprints left in front of me...
Site Visit & Volunteer 2023

During my winter break, I decided to visit my site of research through means of volunteering.
My daily rountine was to:

    1. report to the office
    2. put on a blue mesh vest (to represent volunteers)
    3. sweep the park (was full of broken alcohol bottles and cigarette butts)
    4. chip paint off (so it can be re-painted; no budget for re-modeling)
    5. report back to office
